Josh reached out to me to capture his surprise proposal to Brooke. Both of them are originally from Toronto and recently moved out to Vancouver. They both enjoy hiking and Josh wanted some suggestions for a possible winter proposal with mountains in the background. We ended up deciding to capture his surprise engagement photos at Lighthouse park in Vancouver, a beautiful location just a bit outside the city with view of Downtown Vancouver and the North Shore mountains.
Getting out to Lighthouse Park and finding your way around takes some practice. It can be tricky if you have never been there before so we decided to stake out the location the week prior, a good choice indeed. One tip I have for couples is always to be prepared should your ideal location not work out for you. A backup plan or location close by is highly recommended especially if you are not scouting on the same day and time of the proposal. Josh and I were prepped for plan A and plan B. We had to improvise slightly as on the engagement day there were a few more people than we expected. That was fine since we had scouted the area earlier.
Lighthouse Park makes for some incredible engagement photos during sunset or sunrise. There’s views towards the city, the mountains, and out to the ocean. You also have the entire forest to explore. I love playing with light and shadow and Lighthouse Park is a great playground for this. The surprise went off without a hitch, but Brooke knew something was up when Josh was particularly adamant about going hiking at lighthouse park. The girls always know something is up when the guy wants to do something unexpected :).
